Adderstone Foundation joined forces with Tyneside Women’s Health in November 2014 to support White Ribbon Day. The White Ribbon is the symbol of the international campaign to end violence against women, initiated by the United Nations in 1999.
Adderstone Foundation were approached to support the event by their tenant business, Tyneside Women’s Health.
Tyneside Women’s Health provides support, counselling and wellbeing courses to hundreds of women, including women affected by domestic abuse. Such support helps women rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of re-entering harmful relationships.
Adderstone Foundation supplied Tyneside Women’s Health with the white ribbons required for the campaign which included a launch at Gateshead Council. Group Operations Director and Adderstone Foundation Trustee, Allison Harrison, said: “Tyneside Women’s Health has an office based within one of Adderstone Group’s properties and, on hearing about their campaign to promote White Ribbon Day, we decided we wanted to support the cause by incorporating a ‘Domestic Abuse and the Workplace’ policy into our own HR policy.
“The aim of this policy is to ensure that we are able to provide support to staff who may be victims of domestic violence and to guarantee we are in a position to provide assistance in identifying and dealing with these issues should they arise.
“In addition to supporting the campaign as an employer, as a supportive landlord we also purchased the white ribbons for White Ribbon Day on behalf of Tyneside Women’s Health and hope they will become an iconic representation of the campaign to provide a lasting memory of the stand against domestic violence, not just for White Ribbon Day but long into the future.”
