In November 2013, 12 volunteers from Adderstone Group embarked on a walk from Craster in Northumberland, along the coast to Low Newton to raise awareness and funds for Lupus UK.
Lupus is a complex condition that affects the immune system (the body’s natural defence against illness and infection) and many parts of the body. It can have a range of symptoms from mild to severe. Lupus involves the immune system attacking healthy cells, tissues and organs with 90% of cases occurring in women. Even mild cases can have a serious negative impact on a patient's quality of life.
The nine mile coastal walk took in some of the most beautiful parts of the Northumberland coastline and went past the historic Dunstanburgh Castle.
Adderstone Group's Company Legal Director, Tim Clark, who joined the walk said: “We were all hoping for some good weather for the walk, but sadly the conditions were difficult and we had to contend with high winds and rain.”
“Despite the tough circumstances, it was all worth it to raise funds for such a worthy cause. Many of our volunteers have known someone affected with Lupus which made us all the more determined to tackle the incelment weather on the day.”
The volunteers followed up the walk with a Coffee Morning for Lupus UK and raised a combined total of £682.
