A North East based amateur boxing club has benefitted from a donation of multi-gym fitness equipment from Adderstone Foundation.
The donation is helping children and young athletes at Dunston Boxing Club and has quickly become an essential part of their fitness and training regime.
The equipment, worth over £1,000, has been a valued addition to the club’s facilities at their premises in Lobley Hill Road, Gateshead where they moved in 2011.
Dunston Boxing Club has a long history and a large following of devoted juniors, aged 12 – 16, who train three times a week with the support of adult trainers. Club members come from all over the Tyne & Wear area to use the facilities.
Members of the club compete through the AIBA (International Amateur Boxing Association) in many local and regional events. One of the club’s youngest members, 13-year-old Owen Watson from Ryton, recently appeared in the final of the 2014 England Schoolboy Championships.
Michael Smith, a coach at Dunston Boxing Club for the last 2 years said: “I would like to thank the Adderstone Foundation for their generous donation. The club relies on donations just like this from local businesses and this will go a long way to enabling us to continue working with the kids.
“Boxing training for children can help them excel in physical fitness, balance and coordination as well as mental wellbeing and motivation. It’s been great seeing the children grow from strength to strength and build up their skills and confidence.”
