In summer 2014, guests, sponsors and tournament staff once again joined together to celebrate the 119th Northumberland Open Tennis Tournament, sponsored by Adderstone Foundation, at The Northumberland Club in Jesmond.
During the event, which saw participation from over 420 competitors, £4,100 was raised by Adderstone Foundation in support of the North East Visually Impaired Tennis Club.
Visually impaired tennis features sound balls, extra bounces and smaller courts and has regular participants and players who travel the country playing in tournaments. Tennis sessions for visually impaired tennis players take place on a regular basis at The Northumberland Club for both adults and children and the classes enable participants to build on basic coordination and social skills as well as confidence and fitness.
During the Tournament lunch guests were also entertained by an exhibition tennis match featuring four-time Wimbledon doubles winner, Peter Fleming and former British no. 1 tennis player and well known television presenter, Andrew Castle.
