The Adderstone Foundation is dedicated to a range of humanitarian causes in Zambia. Working in partnership with Volunteer Zambia and Sport in Action, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through sport and recreational activities.
Our founding trustee in Zambia
In 2023, Ian Baggett visited Zambia with his to eldest children to identify causes that we could support. The trip was inspired by his long term friend from his time at Durham University, Dr Peter Warburton OBE, who had co-founded Volunteer Zambia. Ian describes the experience as having been life changing for him and his children, meeting some of the poorest yet happiest children in the world and has committed to supporting the following initiatives and others in future years:
Action
Enterprise Hubs
Adderstone Foundation has supported Sport in Action and Volunteer Zambia in developing enterprise hubs across Zambia, which empower communities by combining sports with educational and economic resources. These hubs provide training, mentoring, and skills development, allowing young people to engage in sports while gaining vocational and business skills. By enhancing local opportunities, the hubs foster self-sufficiency and sustainable community growth.
Fountain of Hope Welfare Facilities, April 2024
One of Adderstone Foundation’s impactful projects involved a full renovation of the toilet and shower block at the Fountain of Hope Street Orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia. This critical upgrade significantly enhances sanitation and hygiene, directly benefiting hundreds of vulnerable children in the Lusaka area. By improving these facilities, the project supports Fountain of Hope’s mission to offer a safer, healthier environment for children, many of whom rely on the orphanage for shelter, care, and basic needs.
Ambassador, Zambia Tennis Association, 2023 – Current
Ian Baggett, founder of Adderstone Foundation, has recently been appointed as an honorary chair ambassador for Zambia Tennis. Through the foundation, Zambia’s membership with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) as secured, allowing the country to enhance its tennis programs and provide opportunities for athletes to compete at global tennis events. This membership also supports the development of tennis from grassroots levels to professional stages. This ties closely with the work we do alongside Sport in Action and Volunteer Zambia.
Justyna Jackholt, Trustee in Zambia, 2024
Trustee, Justyna Jackholt, travelled to Zambia to gain a deeper understanding of how Sport in Action works and to see first hand how the organizations Enterprise Programme operates. During her visit, Justyna was taken on a tour of some of SIA’s sports Hub sites. She was involved in productive discussions on how to further advance the Enterprise Program, exploring ways to enhance its impact on young Zambians.
Fundraising Event, Adderstone’s London Office, 2024
Adderstone Group’s London office at 7 Stratton Street hosted a fundraising event with prominent figures including Dr. Peter Warburton OBE, founder of Volunteer Zambia, Jack Preston, Sports Development Manager at Sport in Action, and Kema Kay, a Zambian-born actor, musician and writer. The event was focused on raising awareness for key initiatives in Zambia, particularly those supporting sports development and youth empowerment. Attendees were encouraged to contribute donations, which would directly benefit the ongoing work being done to improve access to sports, education, and other vital services across the country.
Impact
Through the partnership with Sport in Action and Volunteer Zambia, Adderstone Foundation’s enterprise hubs are directly benefiting over 1,500 children and youth across Zambia.
At the Fountain of Hope Street Orphanage in Lusaka, the upgraded infrastructure of the welfare facilities, now provides safe, hygienic conditions for hundreds of children. This renovation aligns with Fountain of Hope’s mission to provide care and shelter for vulnerable children in Lusaka, enhancing both their physical safety and quality of life.
Adderstone Foundation’s financial support to secure Zambia’s membership with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has unlocked invaluable opportunities for the country’s tennis players. With access to global tournaments, improved coaching, and new funding channels, young Zambian athletes can now pursue tennis at both recreational and competitive levels. This membership also strengthens grassroots development, expanding access to sports for children across Zambia.
Finally, the foundation’s recent fundraising event at its London office raised £3,112, which will directly fund ongoing projects in Zambia. This event raised awareness and inspired further support for initiatives that empower Zambian youth through sports, education, and essential services, creating a ripple effect that reaches communities nationwide.
